Campus: University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)Description:Your Opportunity:Prof. George Arhonditsis, in the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough, invites applicants for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) to conduct collaborative research in the area of watershed modelling with special emphasis on the evaluation of best management practices (BMPs) to minimize the environmental impact of farming activities.This opportunity of a Research Associate (Limited Term) is a 2 (two)-year term, appointment and the anticipated start date is January 1st, 2025.This search aligns with the University’s commitment to strategically and proactively promote diversity among our community members ( ). Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.Job Duties:The successful candidate will be responsible for the conceptualization, execution, communication, and dissemination of watershed modelling research as directed by Prof. Arhonditsis. Beyond these responsibilities, the successful candidate may be expected to participate in the preparation of grant applications; research presentations and group seminars; research supervision of two or more graduate students and other trainees.Qualifications (Minimum Qualifications):Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and at least four (4) years of postdoctoral or academic experience, with demonstrated academic and research excellence in the following areas: environmental modelling, statistics, uncertainty analysis, plant ecophysiology, and geochemistry. Excellence is to be demonstrated through publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and a proven track record of creativity in developing modelling strategies, analyzing ecological/biogeochemical data and demonstrating a high degree of collaborative research. It is also essential that the candidates highlight their ability to work independently, e.g., experience presenting research, experience supervising students. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work positively with others in a collaborative work environment.
