The roleA two-year postdoctoral research position, based in the Department of Film and Television at the University of Bristol, with the UKRI-Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project Colonial Reels: Histories and Afterlives of Colonial Film Collections led by Dr Jacqueline Maingard ( https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=AH%2FY004574%2F1 )What will you be doing?

  • Working collaboratively and independently under the mentorship and guidance of the Principal Investigator, to attain the project goals.
  • Undertaking research into the colonial reels in the project`s four partner archives, British Empire and Commonwealth Collection, British Film Institute, Royal Anthropological Institute and Wellcome Collection.
  • Contributing to conferences, symposiums, workshops and other events, and producing academic outputs independently and collaboratively.

You should apply ifYou have:

  • A PhD in Film History or Film Studies and/or Film Practice, or Historical Studies, or a closely-related field
  • Knowledge of film history, and/or British colonial history, and/or visual anthropology, and/or postcolonial theory
  • Knowledge and understanding of debates on decolonisation, reparation, restitution and access to film archives
  • An interest and ability in working with film archives
