Make your mark for patientsWe are seeking a motivated and inquisitive Research Associate/ Research Scientist to join our Antibody Discovery & Optimisation team in Slough, Berkshire, UKAbout the roleThis role involves generating research reagents and performing experiments to support later-stage portfolio advancement, biomarker strategy, and ongoing small molecule and novel modality programs. You will be responsible for delivering optimal lead candidate antibody molecules with the required functional activity, reactivity, and affinity values.What you’ll do

  • Discover antibodies as tool reagents and therapeutic candidates using UCB’s world-leading single B cell technologies.
  • Drive innovative antibody projects forward from the laboratory using excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Contribute to the development of new methodologies and techniques in antibody discovery and engineering.
  • Present experimental data at cross-functional meetings and external conferences.
  • Aim to publish work in high-impact scientific journals and patents.
  • Maintain compliance procedures by completing training modules and maintaining experimental records

Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills

  • A BSc, MSc, or PhD in a relevant field.
  • An enthusiastic outlook and experience working in a laboratory.
  • Understanding and proven practical experience of molecular biology and/or cellular biology techniques.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to plan and execute tasks to clear timelines and prioritise tasks with support.
  • Ability to work independently and actively collaborate within and across teams.
  • Familiarity with any of the following is desirable:
  • Antibody discovery techniques (e.g., immunisation-dependent or display libraries)
  • B cell immunology
  • Molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, DNA preparations)
  • Screening assays (biochemical and cell-based)
  • Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) or similar
  • Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS)
