Salary:Grade I: £37,099 – £41,732 per annum;Grade J: £41,732 – £46,974 per annum;Grade K: £48,350 – £54,395 per annum; pro rata for part time.The roleAre you a power electronics engineer, RF electronics engineer, or an RF integrated circuit design engineer looking to apply your background to next generation power electronic conversion in pursuit of Carbon Net Zero? We are seeking a motivated interdisciplinary researcher to join the Electrical Energy Management Research Group, University of Bristol, to develop high-performance SiC and GaN power electronics, with the associated high-speed sensing and gate driving methods.You will be offered one of the following three salary grades: Research Associate, Senior Research Associate, or Research Fellow; depending on the number of years of post-PhD R&D experience, and how well your skills and experience align to the requirements of our current suite of research projects.There are opportunities to work on more than one research project simultaneously to help develop your skills and experience and get a mix of both industrial collaborations and government-funded (EPSRC) research with good opportunities for publication. Your time will be allocated to one or several of these, depending on your interests, personal development goals, and skills.At the end of the project, you will have the opportunity to apply for any new opportunities within the group that may come up beyond the end of this role.What will you be doing?The successful candidate will work in renowned research team who carry out experimental research across high performance power conversion in electric vehicles and wind turbines, ultra-fast switching with GaN and SiC, active EMI mitigation, record-breaking high-resolution active gate driving, new sensing and instrumentation (e.g. Infinity sensor), and related commercialisation activities.The successful candidate will be involved in at least some of the following activities: * Pushing the performance limits of SiC and GaN power electronic switching.
- Advanced gate driving and sensing.
- Automotive and wind-power related power electronics, all wide-bandgap, up to 2.3 kV.
- Industrial Collaboration across various sectors.
- Growing your expertise; shaping and leading research activities.
You should apply ifQualifications & Experience:
- PhD or equivalent R&D experience in Power Electronics, RF Electronics, or RF/Mixed Signal/Power Integrated Circuit Design
- A desire to apply your knowledge to multi-disciplinary engineering problems that help us reach Carbon Net Zero.
- An ability and desire to engage in multidisciplinary research projects and to support researchers working on other projects.
