Job PurposeTo make a leading contribution across a portfolio of research projects, including: (1) the NERC-funded, GALLANT – Glasgow as a Living Accelerating Novel Transformation (2) the UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) and Department for Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)-funded, Scotland Spoke of the Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change Hub; and (3) strategic University initiatives (e.g., Glasgow Changing Futures and Scotland Beyond Net Zero). The successful candidate will be required to make a leading contribution to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as make a significant contribution to the management and direction of these complex, interdisciplinary projects as opportunities allow.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Play a leading role in the management and development of the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects and to work independently and in collaboration to bring aspects of these projects to successful completion including establishing and maintaining external collaborations both nationally and internationally2. Take a leading role in the development of the research agenda and in the planning, execution and future direction of the research projects in line with College and University Research Strategies aligned with the Sustainable Futures priority area in Glasgow Changing Futures.3. Establish and maintain an extensive research profile and reputation and that of the University of Glasgow/ School/ Research Group and sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.4. Play a leading role in the presentation of research findings at high profile national and international conferences, seminars and meetings to enhance the research profile of the projects/College/University.5. Raise the profile of research outputs and insights by using a wide variety of outputs with a diverse set of audiences and stakeholders.6. Lead the development, both independently and in collaboration with others (including external stakeholders) of the identification of potential funding sources and lead in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research of international quality.7. Take a leading role in developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across the projects and in the broader School/College/University and wider community (e.g. academic and other collaborators/partners).8. Play a leading role in the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project teams to ensure their effective development.9. Supervise Masters students, PhD students and student interns/placements as assigned by Professor Jaime Toney.10. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the projects, including budgets/expenditure and contribute to a portfolio of research-led sustainability training courses.11. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline in order to provide advice and guidance to students and less experienced colleagues.12. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.13. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.14. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceKnowledge and QualificationsEssential:A1. Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in a relevant subject area.A2. A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the wider subject area or subject specialism. Excellent theoretical and applied understanding of systems thinking and systems approaches related to climate adaptation and nature positive solutions.A3. Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge in areas relevant to the field of research.SkillsEssential:C1. Experience of independence as illustrated by identification of project objectives from assessment of literature, design and analysis of research data and drafting of papers.E7.
