Are you a passionate and experienced quantitative researcher looking to take on a dynamic leadership role in real-world public health research?The Hull York Medical School is seeking a highly motivated, forward-thinking researcher to join a prestigious, NIHR-funded programme, where your work will directly shape public health interventions across the UK. You will be a key member of the newly established Public Health Intervention Responsive Studies Team (PHIRST REACH)—a collaborative initiative led by the University of York in partnership with the Bradford Institute for Health Research and the University of Leeds. Funded by the NIHR, PHIRST teams provide timely, high-quality evaluations of public health interventions, supporting local authorities nationwide in making evidence-based decisions that improve population health. The post holder will be given responsibility to play a leadership role and publish high-impact over the course of the 5 year programme of work.The post is based at the University of York but may require occasional (subsisted) travel elsewhere across the UK to engage with local authority partners. You will be expected to work closely with the PHIRST leads, Programme Manager and qualitative researcher to take overall responsibility for the planning, management and delivery of the evaluation projects. This will include oversight of any quantitative data analysis, support to qualitative research, all associated routine reporting and dissemination of findings including producing high quality research outputs.Main purpose of the role

• To contribute to and/or lead on the production of research outputs and research outcomes in particular relating to the work of the PHIRST REACH team.
• To participate actively in the planning, management and delivery of research projects, including supervising the work of others and providing expert advice and guidance.
• To contribute to and/or lead the obtaining of external research funding.
• To contribute to the public understanding of research and scholarship.
• To lead on, develop and oversee quantitative data analysis plans and contribute to qualitative research efforts.
• To be able to work and deliver at pace to translate complex data into actionable and impactful insights for public health teams within local authorities and the wider health system.
• To work collaboratively with external partners to apply robust scientific methods to real-world, public health problems.

Some of the Essential Skills, Experience & Qualification needed (Please see Person Specification for more details)

• PhD in Public health, Epidemiology or related field or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies
• Advanced and specialist IT knowledge in R, SPSS or other specialist software for statistical analysis
• Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
• Ability to collate, analyse, interpret and present statistical and textual information and communicate complex analytical concepts to a range of audiences
