About usWe have a vacancy for a postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a research group led by Prof. Mahdad Noursadeghi within the Division of Infection and Immunity. The group comprises a multi-disciplinary team of clinician and non-clinician scientists with expertise in laboratory, human experimental medicine and bioinformatic/computational methodologies. Their work focuses on the immunology of infectious diseases, aiming to identify biomarkers for diagnostic and prognostic applications, and enabling development of novel vaccines and therapeutics. The Division of Infection & Immunity at UCL hosts approximately 40 principal investigators with world leading expertise in molecular virology, pathogen genomics and evolution, innate immune host-pathogen interactions, tuberculosis, viral immunology, translation of T cell receptor transgenics, T cell immunoregulation and immunology of transplantation, immunology of ageing, primary immunodeficiencies and computational immunology.About the roleThe post is supported by Wellcome Trust funding and will join ongoing projects on human immunology of infectious diseases, using cellular models of host-pathogen interactions and human experimental challenge, focusing on immune responses in Tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2 infection. The post-holder will be responsible for laboratory experimental work encompassing molecular and cellular biology, immunological assays and host transcriptional profiling by RNA/T cell receptor sequencing. Specific objectives focus on understanding the cause and effects of variation in human responses, clonal and functional T cell determinants of protection and pathogenesis, and the mechanisms by which T cells and macrophage interactions contribute to protective and pathogenic immunity. The projects involve close collaborations with teams within UCL (Prof. Benny Chain, Dr Gabriele Pollara, Dr Andreas Mayer), at Imperial College (Prof. Chris Chiu, Prof. Shiranee Sriskandan) and University of Oxford (Prof. Julian Knight). The post is funded for 1 year in the first instance from 1 July 2024 – 30 June 2025, with the possibility of extension subject to project outcomes and priorities.Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at UCL Grade 6B, with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.Informal enquiries regarding the vacancy can be made by email to Prof. Mahdad Noursadeghi ( ).If you have any queries about the role or application process, please contact the staffing team at hr.ii@ucl.ac.ukAbout youThe position will suit a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist interested in human immune responses to infection, at the interface of laboratory and bioinformatic/computational science.Applicants should have a PhD (or about to be awarded) in a relevant subject, and experience of laboratory research in infection and immunity, with an enthusiasm for discovery science.
