About usThe Betel nut and betel nut-associated oral cancer Awareness and Early Detection Programme is a flagship project of the Interdisciplinary Rhinology, Sinus/Skull Base Surgery and Head and Neck Cancer Programme (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/cancer/research/interdisciplinary-rhinology-sinusskull-base-surgery-and-head-and-neck-cancer-programme). The project aims to raise awareness of this significant global health challenge and deliver on an early detection strategy for betel nut-induced oral cancer.
It will build on our previous work on the genomics of this devastating disease, and expand the genomic analysis to include further samples, incl. corresponding blood and saliva samples.About the roleThe main aims of the job will be to support the research team in the delivery of an awareness campaign, organisation of further research work and analysis, and linkage of molecular and healthcare data from a range of sources.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to fully engage in all related projects, incl. the real-time analysis of patient data.

  • This is a fixed-term role until 14th April 2025 in the first instance.
  • Research Fellows – ‘Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary £37,332- £39,980 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.’

As a minimum we will keep all adverts open for 2 weeks. About youThe post holder must have a Postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional expertise appropriate to the role
Experience with molecular techniques in the laboratory and analysis of results, ideally in the field of head and neck cancer.
Interest in innovative research method development and using digital software.
