The successful candidate will join Prof. Daniel Stuckey’s team and will be based at the Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging (CABI), Division of Medicine, in central London www.ucl.ac.uk/centre-for-advanced-biomedical-imaging/. Diabetic related heart disease and neurological dysfunction causes significant mortality and is increasing year-on-year. Research from our lab, our collaborators and others has highlighted how in diabetes the interplay between inflammation, bone marrow vasculature and leukocyte mobilisation is integral in the development of disease in the heart and the brain. Here, we will apply longitudinal preclinical imaging techniques to gain systems’ insights of the complex origins of vascular inflammation, including vascular, hematopoietic stem cells and leukocyte crosstalk in bone marrow; inhibition of inflammatory pathways; and effects on cardiovascular and neurological function. Advanced biomedical imaging techniques will be applied to give serial information on disease ant therapy in vivo. These will include; intravital microscopy, whole organ photoacoustic tomography, whole-body bioluminescence imaging. Ultrasound, PET, SPECT, CT and MRI. This study will give us insights into diabetic disease progression, and these concepts could be translated as early disease markers in precision medicine. The postdoctoral research assistant will play a key role in this collaborative project by developing surgical, drug induced and genetic models of diabetes, heart disease and stroke which can be treated using novel therapeutics. Experience of preclinical cardiovascular models of disease and multimodal imaging technologies is essential.
This post is available until end of August 2026 in the first instance.About you The research fellow will develop surgical, drug induced and genetic models of diabetes, heart disease and stroke which can be treated using novel therapeutics.
