The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. The 2024-29 GOS ICH strategy focuses on its five scientific programmes. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health. GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award.About the role The appointed Research Fellow will be a critical member of the team, responsible for various key activities. They will collaborate closely with borough teams to establish health justice partnerships, explaining the project and the trial requirements. A significant aspect of their role will involve understanding and implementing ethical procedures, including obtaining consent from participants. They will work with the project team and the CTU to support the set up and monitoring of data collection and will collaborate with the PPIE lead to maintain operational arrangements for public engagement and feedback.The Research Fellow will participate in the process evaluation which will be lead by a SRI grade 8 fellow overseeing the study, using mixed methods, curate the data, and produce findings. They are expected to become familiar with the relevant literature on the health effects of financial and legal problems on families with young children, the development of health justice partnerships, and the evaluation of advice interventions on health and primary care services. Additionally, they will support data collection for ethnography and co-design in collaboration with the SRI Research Fellow.Administrative support for the project, including managing risk and impact logs, organizing team meetings, and reporting to funders, will be part of their responsibilities. The Research Fellow will undertake and publish scholarly research that complements the research streams of ICH and SRI and contribute to the development of new research and funding proposals. They will work to enhance the international profile of ICH, SRI, and UCL through participation in conferences, international exchanges, and fund-raising as opportunities arise.A commitment to academic, professional, and personal development is essential, and the Research Fellow is expected to pursue academic excellence continuously. Administrative duties, such as committee work and capacity building, will also be part of their role.Furthermore, the Research Fellow will actively follow and promote UCL policies, including Equal Opportunities and Race Equality policies. They will maintain an awareness of fire and health and safety regulations and carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post. Supporting teaching and training at GOS ICH and UCL, where relevant, and undertaking security clearance and accreditation training as appropriate, are also expected.The salary offered in this role is £42,099 – £49,263 per annum and it is funded for 6 months in the firsts instance with a possibility of a further extension.About you We are looking for a candidate with strong quantitative skills and experience of involvement or running of community based trials in health and or social care research.Application process:
