GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award.About the role We are looking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher to join a multidisciplinary team working on finalising, testing and translating a prototype multispectral near-infrared I/II platform for fluorescence-guided surgery into the operating theatre. The role is funded for one year, and an extension may be possible subject to funding. Funding is made available from NIHR GOSH Biomedical Research Centre.The post offers an excellent career development opportunity for a post-doc with an interest in medical devices, optical imaging, multispectral imaging, software development, fluorescence-guided surgery, and translational research.The post holder will gain knowledge in paediatric cancers, molecular probes for targeted fluorescence-guided surgery, and prototype building. There will be opportunity for the post holder to apply for grants to fund further development of the platform and long term salary for the post-holder. The post-holder will be line managed by Mr Stefano Giuliani (PI of the Image-guided surgery Group at UCL GOSH ICH and Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at GOSH) and Prof Paul Beard (Biomedical Photoacoustics. Dept of Med Phys & Biomedical Eng, UCL) and based between the laboratories at UCL and GOSH.About you Candidates must have a PhD in optical imaging or aligned research area, and a strong knowledge in multispectral imaging. Previous experience in device and software development would be desirable.The post holder will have responsibility for the day to day management and coordination of the project. In particular, the post holder will finalise the construction of a multispectral platform based on an high-tech near-infrared II camera (Nirvana 680, Teledyne) to realise a complete device to image fluorescence guided surgery in preclinical and clinical settings. The post holder will also develop the pathway to translation of the device into the operating theatre and will support the first-in-human case with the novel platform.The salary offered in this role is £42,099 – £45,521 and is funded for 12 months in the first instance. Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (Salary £37,332 – £39,980 per annum, including London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).What we offer As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents we also offer some great benefits some of which are below:41 Days holiday (including 27 days annual leave 8 bank holiday and 6 closure days)
