About usThe EGA Institute for Women’s Health is an exciting and dynamic environment and its mission is to bring together the expertise of clinicians and researchers from a diverse range of disciplines so that they can deliver excellence and innovation in research, clinical practice, education and training in order to make a real and sustainable difference to women’s and babies’ health locally, nationally and worldwide.About the roleThe role is to develop a pre-clinical gene therapy treatment for rare epilepsy, and the duties and responsibilities involve evaluating efficacy of viral gene therapies in a transgenic mouse model of neurological disease through stereotactic administration of treatment, behavioural assessment and tissues analysis.The candidate will engage on a programme of post-doctoral research full-time until 31/01/2027.The candidate will be expected to undertake teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate levels and carry out other forms of public presentation.Applicants should have a higher academic degree e.g. PhD and evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publications.This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Please visit for more information.About youWe are looking for an individual who has extensive experience in neuroscience and gene therapy. Experience in-vivo work (Home office personal licence for animal research), performing stereotactic injections and electroencephalogram (EEG) implant surgery/recording for seizures.Previous experience with in-vivo behavioural work, tissue analysis (qPCR, western blot and immunohistochemistry) and gene therapy vector production are essential.Excellent interpersonal skills and flexible attitude to shift work are essential as well as the ability to work unsupervised on occasion.Applicants should hold a PhD in neuroscience and gene therapy.For the right candidate there will be opportunity to gain new skills; translational gene therapy project, writing project reports for funder, research paper writing, grant writing/submission.Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B spine point with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.What we offerAs well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer great benefits.Please visit to find out more.Early application submission is recommended.The salary range for this role is UCL Grade 7: £43,124 – £ 47,757 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.A job description and person specification can be accessed at the bottom of this page.bottom of this page.Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and InclusionAs London’s Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world’s talent.
