About usThe UCL Huntington’s Disease Centre, based in the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease, is uniquely placed world-wide to translate mechanistic insights to ‘first in human’ studies. It combines sophisticated cell-based systems with rigorously standardised preclinical target validation to prime mechanistically-driven drug development initiatives. The Centre integrates clinical and laboratory work with small proof-of-concept first in human studies in patients in the Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre (LWENC) prior to initiating larger phase 2 and 3 clinical trials including novel huntingtin-lowering trials.About the roleWe are recruiting a Research Fellow to contribute to a project examining the role of the HD genetic modifier PMS1 within Professor Sarah Tabrizi’s research group at the Huntington’s Disease Centre.You will help determine whether PMS1 expression or specific functions of the protein can modify somatic expansion of the HTT CAG repeat region. You will also assess whether therapeutic targeting of PMS1 expression via small molecule-based lowering can modify this phenotype.This is an internal recruitment advert, available to eligible UCL workers only. Proactivity, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills are also essential for this role.This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.What we offerStarting salary offered in the range of £6,468.60 – £6,805.80 (i.e., 15% of £43,124 – £45,372) per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £5,753.55 – £6,150.75 [i.e., 15% of £38,357 – £41,005] per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer great benefits, some of which are below:
