About usWe are looking for an experienced behavioural researcher to join Behavioural Research UK for a fixed term maternity cover post funded for 12 months from February or March 2025.(BR-UK) is an interdisciplinary research consortium funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) via the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The consortium serves as a leadership hub that is part of a wider ESRC programme to build national capability for behavioural research. BR-UK has been awarded funding over five years from November 2023 to conduct and provide leadership to interdisciplinary behavioural research to address societal challenges. The BR-UK hub includes 8 universities and 5 non-academic partners from the public and private sectors.This post is based in the UCL Centre for Behaviour Change (CBC). CBC is a world-renowned interdisciplinary Centre for expertise in behaviour change. Based on an understanding of behaviour in context, we enable change through the interacting influences between people and the social, organisational and economic systems in which they exist. Our research, consultancy and training seek to advance the science and application of behaviour change, generating practical solutions to complex problems using a systematic approach. We collaborate and partner with a wide variety of individuals, communities and organisations (including local and national governments, NGOs and industry).The post-holder will work closely with Professor Susan Michie (co-director of BR-UK) and Professor Jo Hart at the University of Manchester (co-lead of the Capability Building work package). They will join a team of five BR-UK colleagues based at CBC and will work with BR-UK colleagues from other universities and partner organisations. As a researcher at CBC, they will be part of a leading behavioural research community and may become involved with CBC’s wider research, training and consultancy activities.About the roleThe post is advertised for EITHER a full-time Research Fellow (UCL Grade 7, 100% FTE) OR a part-time Senior Research Fellow (UCL Grade 8, 80% FTE).The post holder will be responsible for designing and conducting mixed-methods behavioural research within the BR-UK research consortium.They will conduct research studies about national capability-building in behavioural research and will also collaborate on research across the consortium (touching upon any of the BR-UK and ). Research studies may involve (but are not limited to) mixed-methods surveys, qualitative interviews, participatory workshops, rapid and systematic reviews, and secondary data analysis.The post-holder will contribute to implementing and evaluating capability-building initiatives such as coaching, training, a resource hub, and may contribute to an ‘Ask BR-UK’ advice service. They will support BR-UK’s national network, conferences and events, and will develop and maintain stakeholder relationships spanning public, private and third sectors.Please note that candidates at Grade 8 will need to meet additional criteria commensurate with higher responsibilities.About youDuties and responsibilities of the postResearch and capability-building

  • Conduct mixed-methods studies about national capability-building in behavioural research, as part of BR-UK’s Capability Building work package.
  • Collaborate with researchers and practitioners from multiple disciplines and sectors across the BR-UK consortium. This may involve contributing to studies in other BR-UK

and . * Support capability-building initiatives, such as contributing to the design of coaching, training courses and a resource hub.

  • Support BR-UK’s national network, such as building stakeholder relationships or being part of organising events and webinars.

Project management and team working

  • Prepare research protocols, reports, open science outputs and manuscripts for scientific publication.
  • Present research at conferences, webinars and network events.
  • Prepare progress updates for the research team and funder (ESRC).
  • Contribute content for the BR-UK website, blog, newsletter and social media.
  • Participate in CBC research seminars and writing-support groups.

Higher responsibilities at Grade 8

  • Lead and project manage research studies involving other researchers.
  • Be part of delivering and evaluating capability-building initiatives, such as coaching and training courses.
  • Take an active role in BR-UK’s national network, through building stakeholder relationships and being part of organising events and webinars.
  • Lead or contribute to research funding applications, where appropriate.
