HU4031-25-040This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop their academic career by joining an international and interdisciplinary research team to work on the ESRC-funded project “The role of digital technology in social networks and wellbeing of unaccompanied young refugees”.The aim of the project is to conduct research into the role of digital technology in social networks and wellbeing of unaccompanied young refugees: children under 18 who arrived in the UK seeking asylum without a parent or legal guardian to care for them. We will investigate this in a multidisciplinary, participatory mixed-methods project.The Research Fellow will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the project, data collection (in-depth interviews, a longitudinal online quantitative survey, and group workshops), qualitative and quantitative data analysis, communication with a wide range of stakeholders and community partners, setting up and managing the project website and social media, attending regular meetings on campus, co-organising events, and developing co-authored publications and presentations.We collaborate with organisations supporting refugees, and the project will involve a group of 4 young refugees (co-researchers) with lived experience, who will be involved in the planning and implementation of the research.The successful applicant will be involved in selecting, training and supervising all research assistants. Therefore, it is expected that the successful applicant will be especially sensitive to the norms and needs of those communities. Research will be conducted in Brighton and Hove and in Greater Manchester and will involve some travel and overnight stays in each fieldwork site.In order to be successful in this role you should have:

• A postgraduate qualification/PhD or an equivalent level of professional experience
• A relevant degree, preferably in a social science discipline.
• Sufficient, up to date breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the topic of youth mental health and/or migration and social integration.
• Evidence of engagement in high-quality research activity, such as an emerging track record of high-quality publications.
• Good qualitative research skills and quantitative research skills with competence in statistical analyses.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of stakeholders, community partners, and young people.
• Experience supporting or supervising others.
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with an ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work individually on own initiative and without close supervision, and as part of a team.
• Experience working with vulnerable groups such as refugees and understanding of the safeguarding risks and harms of such groups.
• Excellent IT skills.

Lived experience of displacement would be valuable in this role.An enhanced DBS with children’s barred list is required to be undertaken for this role.You will become a member of the at the University of Brighton, the at the University of Sussex, and the (CESSMIR) in Ghent, Belgium.
