Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position at the Unviversity of Surrey. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with solid research experience in any or both of the following areas:

(1) using the meso-scale computational methods (finite volume, finite element, phase field, or lattice Boltzmann) for modelling 3D porous electrodes of fuel cells, batteries, or electrolysers;

(2) using 3D X-ray or FIB-SEM tomography for reconstructing the 3D electrode microstructures.

The Research Fellow will work with the R&D  team from Ceres Power, a leading developer of clean energy technology based on solid oxide cells for energy generation and hydrogen production, currently with over 600 employees. You will have opportunities to work with an advanced FIB-SEM facility as well as a 3D pore-scale lattice Boltzmann model at the University of Surrey.The University of Surrey was awarded The University of The Year for Graduate Employment. You will benefit from the excellent support and training opportunities for career development, including various be-spoke training workshops and one-to-one mentoring scheme.

The post will be based within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE) at the University of Surrey, and will have opportunity to interact with a vibrant Sustainable Energy and Materials research team with 15 academics and more than 50 PhD and postdoc researchers. The Sustainable Energy and Materials team at the University of Surrey has a strong background in the design, synthesis, optimisation and application of advanced functional materials for energy conversion and storage. The research group has specific interests in multiscale materials modelling combined with experimental approaches for a variety of sustainable electrochemical technologies including fuel cells, electrolysers, and batteries.

This position is available from 01 August 2023 or as soon as possible. The initial contract will be for one year, with the prospect to extend for another year or more depending on the performance.

Candidates must hold (or be close to completion of) a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physics or other relevant major degrees. Candidates should apply online, carefully answer all the application form questions, and attach a curriculum vitae (with details on education, research experiences, successes and the relevant publications to date).

Prospective applicants can contact Dr Qiong Cai (Q.Cai@surrey.ac.uk ), Dr David Cox (d.cox@surrey.ac.uk) , or Dr Michael Short (m.short@surrey.ac.uk ), if they need any specific further information on the post.
