Computational modelling approaches are frequently used alongside experimental research programmes and much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the health of the planet. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes, an expanding number of Masters Programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students.This is an exciting opportunity to join the Patel Lab ( ) based in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology ( ). The aim of the project is to investigate the relationship between endo-lysosomal two-pore channels and novel NAADP-binding proteins in the control of cellular Ca2+ signals.About the roleThe main purpose of this position is to perform cutting-edge research using molecular, biochemical and cellular approaches coupled with computational methods to better understand the molecular basis of Ca2+ release evoked by the second messenger NAADP. It builds on the recent identification of small molecule NAADP mimetics and the NAADP receptors, JPT2 and Lsm12. • You must have a relevant PhD Qualification.
• You must have experience in relevant molecular cell biology techniques (molecular biology, biochemical assays, cell culture, microscopy).
• Knowledge of computational methods and/or adenine-based signalling would be an advantage.
• You will assist the team in the development, planning and delivery of research funded by the BBSRC.
• You will be expected to produce independent and original contributions to the development of the project.
• You will be expected to help identify further funding opportunities.
• In addition to developing and conducting the research, you will communicate results as scientific papers and in scientific presentations at local, national, and international conferences.
