The Research Fellow will be associated with a significant five-year research programme in hydrogen and alternative liquid fuels, UK-HyRES ( ), and will have opportunity to collaborate with various UK and international academic and industry partners. The project aims to develop low-cost and sustainable catalysts for effective conversion of ammonia and nitrogen oxides to enable efficient hydrogen and ammonia combustion. You will be working with Prof Qiong Cai, Dr Melis Duyar, and Dr Kelly Kousi, and their research groups to deliver the project.Duties of the candidate include but are not limited to:– Carry out extensive experimental research on synthesizing novel solid-state inorganic catalysts, characterising catalysts materials properties and catalytic activities, testing the catalyst performance in reactors;– Perform critical analysis of the results and report to consortium regular updates;– Perform extensive literature review to keep up-to-date with the research progress in the field, and write scientific papers for publications;– Be fully engaged with all consortium activities as required by the grant conditions and consortium agreement. This will involve scientific exchanges, meetings and outreach within the UK, visiting academic and industry partners, and travel outside the UK;– Assist in the production of intellectual property and/or high-impact papers for the benefit of both team members and the University of Surrey;– Assist with the supervision of students in the group (postgraduate, undergraduate, and overseas visitors).The position is available from 01 May 2025, initially for 24 months, with the possibility of further extension.About youCandidates must hold (or be close to completion of) a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or other relevant disciplines.
