Job Description:The Edinburgh Law School is seeking a Research Fellow in Criminology to work with Professor Susan McVie on the ESRC-funded Scottish Centre for Administrative Data Research (SCADR). The post-holder will design and deliver policy-focused research projects using linked administrative datasets. The research will focus on developing research that links crime and justice data (from police, courts and prisons) with health, education and other public sector datasets. The post-holder will also be expected to publish in high quality academic journals as well as participate in policy and public engagement activities, training courses, and other events.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A completed (or almost completed) PhD in a criminology related topic.
  • Relevant experience of using advanced quantitative methods and statistical modelling (e.g. longitudinal analysis, multi-level modelling, geo-spatial analysis, GIS or other techniques for analysing with and visualising geographical data).
  • Expertise in appropriate software packages (e.g. SPSS, Stata, SAS, MPlus, R, etc.) and experience of managing and analysing large datasets, keeping shared work spaces tidy and appropriately documenting workflow.
  • Experience of writing to a high academic standard, evidence of writing for academic publication and the ability to clearly and effectively communicate the results of quantitative data analysis to expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.

The post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time, flexible working patterns or a potential job share. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
