It is a truly international community: more than one-third of our student body – more than 51,000 strong – come from 150 countries and over one-third of staff are from outside the UK.About the roleThe UCL Physics and Astronomy department’s High Energy Physics (HEP) group is seeking a talented PhD particle physicist to develop the concept of a giant distributed detector system incorporating recent electronics developments in the group. Key aims of the project are to work on developing an FPGA readout of M64s, investigating rare events via coincident readout and developing concept of transportable detectors.You will be working in an exciting and supportive research environment under the HEP Group which consists of around 80 staff and students with involvement in particle phenomenology, neutrino experiments, direct Dark Matter searches, Particle Astrophysics, lepton sector experiments, accelerator R&D and Data-Intensive Science via our Centre for Doctoral Training.This position is funded for 1 year in the first instance.Candidates will need to upload a CV (including a list of publications), a statement of research interests and plans (3 pages maximum), and the contact information for two references.
