Research Fellow in Economics

The Health Economics Research Unit (HERU) is seeking to appoint a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in labour/health economics for a period of 1-year. The postholder will provide analytical support for a project that will examine the economic influences driving recruitment and retention within the social care sector. The applicant will hold, or be very close to completion of, a PhD in labour economics with experience in the use of large national data-sets.

This post will support a project in the Workforce and Organisation of Care theme within HERU. HERU is located in the Institute of Applied Health Sciences within the School of School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. Information about the Health Economics Research Unit can be found at www.abdn.ac.uk/heru . We are recognised for our world-leading research by the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021). HERU contributed to the University of Aberdeen’s UoA2  (Public Health, Health Services and Primary Care Unit of Assessment) submission, with 95% of our activity being rated as internationally-excellent or world-leading. This placed us eighth out of 32 institutions in the UK, and top in Scotland. These results highlight HERU’s position as a leading health economics research centre, with a reputation for delivering applied and methodological work that is nationally and internationally significant.

Key Responsibilities:

This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Unit’s portfolio of research on the health and social care workforce. The postholder will identify relevant literature, undertake the econometric analysis, and contribute to the dissemination of the results. This post will support the forward programme of the Workforce and Organisation of Care theme in fulfilling its remit of the Chief Scientist Office core funding. In particular, this project will support the evidence base around the establishment of a National Care service within Scotland.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6,  £36,333 – £38,474 per annum and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.  Appointees at grade 6 will be expected to have a PhD in economics/health economics. Candidates near completion of a PhD will be considered but will be appointed on Grade 5 until their PhD is completed.
