About usThe Research Department of Epidemiology & Public Health is a world leader in life course epidemiology and research on the social determinants of population health and health inequalities, housing many internationally important data investments such as: the Whitehall II study, the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA), the ONS-Longitudinal Study, and the Health, Alcohol, and Psychosocial risk factors in Eastern Europe study (HAPIEE), as well as the Health Surveys for England and Scotland. The department also houses the ESRC International Centre for Life course Studies in Society & Health (ICLS) which investigates the interplay between the social environment, biomarkers and health over the life course making use of the UK’s many longitudinal, population data investments. The Research Department sits within UCL Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care . The post is based in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) research group, a longitudinal study of a representative sample of men and women aged 50 and over living in England.About the roleThe successful candidate will work with the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) team, under the supervision of Professor Zaninotto. The research will entail analysing data on environmental exposures and their effects on cognition, dementia and healthy ageing.About youThe successful candidate must hold a PhD and have excellent analytic skills, including statistical analysis and data handling and knowledge of the evidence base on environmental exposures and health outcomes. Desirable skills include experience in working with advanced longitudinal statistical methods and a track record of publications. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (£34,605-£39,980) per annum, inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date PhD is being awarded.
