For further information about the department, please visit www.bartlett.ucl.ac.uk/architectureAbout the role We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow based in London to co-produce social and spatial understandings of what makes a healthy place, how places change over time, and to develop ways of assessing these at scale. The work includes creating detailed maps of what makes a healthy place to guide other aspects of the research programme including analyses, development and evaluation of place interventions, and longer-term modelling of the impact of places on health and equalities.This role is part of a 4-year UKRI funded project within the Population Health Improvement network of clusters (PHI UK), studying Healthy Urban Places in the north of the UK. The post holder will work collaboratively as part of a wider team in London, Bradford, Liverpool, and York. It will also involve coordination with team members working with local communities in Bradford and Liverpool to develop and map a range of empirical qualitative and quantitative data on land use, urban form, and pictorial, film, and textual records for a selection of areas across the two cities and three historical epochs.See more details in the Job Description and Person Specification documents.This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff. Please visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/human-resources/conditions-service-research-teaching-and-professional-services-staff for more information.About you The postholder will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in Space Syntax, quantitative human geography, HGIS, Geographic Data Science, or a related spatial discipline, preferably with a focus on health. They will also understand the challenges in using GIS to manage and process contemporary and historical maps. A knowledge of GIS (ideally QGIS), as well as experience with spatial data analysis are essential. We expect candidates to have knowledge of space syntax theories related to people and place, excellent communication skills, and experience or working in an interdisciplinary research team. Knowledge of the public health context of the UK, and a deep understanding of the socio-economic and cultural specificities of Northern England are also vital.
