The programme of work will employ direct measurements, transfer reactions, and gamma-ray spectroscopy techniques to investigate astrophysical reactions that occur in explosive stellar phenomena. In particular, this position will involve work with rare isotope beams at the latest generation of accelerator facilities, such as the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), Argonne National Laboratory, TRIUMF and HIE-ISOLDE. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work on detector development as part of the STFC-funded FAUST project and will be encouraged in the submission of experimental proposals.The Nuclear Physics group at the University of Surrey undertakes research in fundamental theoretical and experimental nuclear physics, radiation physics and its applications. The PDRA will join an established group studying nuclear structure and reactions pertinent to astrophysical scenarios using innovative experimental techniques.
