Research Fellow in Nuclear AstrophysicsThe University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research. We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve – shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee. Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.
The roleWe are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in experimental nuclear astrophysics at the University of Surrey. This position will support a programme of nuclear astrophysics, funded under a recent STFC Consolidated Grant award. The programme of work will employ direct measurements, transfer reactions, and gamma-ray spectroscopy techniques to investigate astrophysical reactions that occur in explosive stellar phenomena. In particular, this position will involve work with rare isotope beams at the latest generation of accelerator facilities, such as the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), Argonne National Laboratory, TRIUMF and HIE-ISOLDE. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work on detector development as part of the STFC-funded FAUST project and will be encouraged in the submission of experimental proposals. The Nuclear Physics group at the University of Surrey undertakes research in fundamental theoretical and experimental nuclear physics, radiation physics and its applications. The PDRA will join an established group studying nuclear structure and reactions pertinent to astrophysical scenarios using innovative experimental techniques. Our research also benefits from close collaboration with the Nuclear Theory Group in Surrey.About you
Candidates should have (or are about to be awarded) a PhD in experimental nuclear physics and a proven track record of contributions in nuclear physics. How to Apply
