The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Southampton invites applications for a two-year fixed-term postdoctoral research position to work with Professor Ivette Fuentes Guridi on an exciting project at the forefront of quantum physics and fundamental science.This position focuses on leveraging Bose-Einstein Condensates (BECs) and advanced quantum metrology techniques to explore gravitational effects and fundamental aspects of physics. A central goal of the project is to exploit quantum squeezing in BECs for ultra-precise gravitational measurements, opening pathways to novel applications of quantum technologies in fundamental research.The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and is expected to contribute actively to research innovation, discussions, and dissemination of findings through publications and conferences.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct theoretical and computational research on quantum field theory in curved spacetime and quantum metrology, specifically focusing on BEC systems.Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to design and analyze experiments integrating quantum technologies and gravitational measurements.Produce high-quality publications in top-tier scientific journals and present findings at international conferences.Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students contributing to the project.Qualifications and SkillsA PhD (or equivalent) in physics, with specialization in quantum field theory in curved spacetime, quantum metrology, or BEC physics.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:Quantum information theoryQuantum opticsNumerical modeling and simulations in quantum systemsExcellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with researchers across diverse disciplines.Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.
