About the RoleFor informal queries, please email Professor Ricahrd Walton (Professor & Deputy Head of Department of Chemistry) at r.i.walton@warwick.ac.uk.The Warwick Centre for Experimental Fuel Technology (CEFT) is aiming to develop innovative next generation fuel cell and battery technologies.A key feature of the Centre’s work is that technology developments will be underpinned by fundamental understanding, either using a range of innovative techniques and workflows already available at Warwick (and some invented here) or by developing new methods.The Centre is an exciting venture bringing together leading research groups in the Department of Chemistry, Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) and the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick.With world-leading expertise and facilities in electrochemistry, materials chemistry, spectroscopy, microscopy, modelling and battery and fuel cell construction and testing, we aim to develop next generation electrochemical energy technologies through holistic views of fuel cells (especially ammonia fuel cells) and metal and metal ion (Li, Na, Ca etc.) batteries, from the nanoscale to device level.Other fuel cell and battery technologies can also be explored as part of the Centre.This role will help lead our efforts in materials synthesis and structural characterisation.This is a great opportunity for an individual with imaginative ideas and aspirations to make a significant contribution to strategically important and growing area at the University of Warwick that will have global impact and visibility.We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so./*generated inline style */
About YouYou will have extensive experience of the synthesis of inorganic materials, which might include solid-state synthesis or solvothermal methods, used to produce materials which may be oxides, chalcogenides, zeotypes, or metal-organic frameworks. You will have knowledge, or an interest in, using such materials for in energy-related applications such as batteries, electrocatalysis, or ionic conductors.You will be expert in developing innovative approaches for the reproducible synthesis of phase-pure samples of materials with control of crystal morphology from the nanoscale to the microscale.You will be experienced in the analysis of powder diffraction data to analyse the purity, crystallinity and crystal structures of materials, with knowledge of structure solution and refinement of crystal structure using the Rietveld method.You will have experience of other materials characterisation methods, such as spectroscopic methods X-ray, vibrational spectroscopy, for example) to characterise local atomic environment of materials.Your experience in these methods may extend from the laboratory to national facilities, such as synchrotron or neutron, where you might have coordinated and led experiments.You will have an excellent publication record, with high quality publications in materials synthesis and structure solution. You will have an excellent record of poster and talk presentations at national and international meetings.You will be collegiate and able to demonstrate that you have worked effectively and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.You will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant area of Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science (or be close to submitting your thesis).For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure .
