Through this research, the project will develop new knowledge and tools for risk assessment of temperature events and targeted interventions at different spatial and temporal scales, with a focus on groups that are disproportionately affected.This research position sits within a work package which aims to understand the impact of extreme events on hospitalisation, all-cause mortality, and long-term outcomes in a representative sample of adults with multiple long-term conditions, at national and local level, and identify high-risk and vulnerable groups. The post will be based in the School of Geography and Environmental Science, within the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences (FELS). The work is led by Dr Rebecca Collins (School of Geography and Environmental Science) and Proessor Athina Vlachantoni (Department of Gerontology, Faculty of Social Sciences), both Co-Investigators on the project. You will be part of a supportive group including other Research Fellows, and other Faculty members, both within Southampton and partner institutions.To be successful in this role you will have, or will be close to completing, a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications) with a strong statistical component in a relevant discipline (e.g geography, gerontology, statistics, demography, economics, social policy). Essential attributes for the role are: Knowledge and expertise in bivariate and multivariate statistics; Being skilled in the use of SPSS or other software; the ability to plan and organise work independently and as part of a team; and the ability to write research presentations and papers. Additionally, experience in the analysis of the Understanding Society and/or the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing would also be an advantage.The School of Geography and Environmental Science is committed to fostering a culture of .
