For further information about the department, please visit www.bartlett.ucl.ac.uk/architectureAbout the roleWe are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to contribute to our work enhancing the understanding of what makes a healthy place. This role involves developing and co-producing a longitudinal spatial dataset that captures environmental features and their links to health data on non-communicable disease risk factors and outcomes. The researcher will enrich existing cohorts with detailed spatial indicators, including community co-produced and crowd-sourced data. Responsibilities include developing and integrating longitudinal spatial indicators, managing spatial databases, and ensuring research reproducibility. The researcher will use advanced statistical and spatial analysis tools to extract insights from complex data, propose innovative research inquiries, and communicate findings to diverse audiences effectively.As part of a 4-year UKRI-funded project within the Population Health Improvement network of clusters (PHI UK), focusing on Healthy Urban Places in the north of the UK, the Research Fellow will collaborate with a wider team based in London, Bradford, Liverpool, and York. They will work closely with health researchers and the Healthy Urban Places team to apply longitudinal spatial and health data, supporting novel, place-based, policy-relevant epidemiological and interventional research, as well as longer-term modelling of the impacts of places on health.See more details in the Job Description and Person Specification documents.This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff. Please visit for more information.About youThe postholder will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in spatial data science, geography, urban planning, epidemiology, public health, or related fields with GIS expertise. Proficiency in programming/scripting (preferably R), working with large spatial databases and visualising complex spatial datasets is essential. The candidate should possess strong statistical analysis skills, excellent organisational and scientific communication abilities, and a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. They will also bring knowledge of managing and analysing longitudinal cohort data in secure environments and understanding the UK public health context and Northern England’s socio-economic specifics are vital. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of space syntax, causal inference methods in observational data, and longitudinal data analysis.
