Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.The post-holder will join a project focussing on providing analysis and modelling to support polio eradication. Statistical models will be developed to forecast spatial spread of poliovirus in affected countries, which may be used to inform the scope of outbreak response. Mathematical models of transmission will be developed to improve understanding of how poliovirus persists in communities, and used to inform further data collection.The post-holder will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic at Research Fellow level, or doctoral degree in a relevant topic for Assistant Professor. Candidates should have proficient knowledge and experience in common programming language(s), such as R or C/C++ conducted within an ‘open science’ framework. Relevant experience (expertise for Assistant Professor) in using data to inform mathematical and/or statistical models to understand biological processes such as infectious disease spread is also essential. Knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology relevant to polio is desirable. The post is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and is available immediately.The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6 for Research Fellow in the range ££44,847 – £50,808 or Grade 7 for Assistant Professor, £52,199 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff.
