The post holder will be based in the Silicon Photonics Group, in the Optoelectronics Research Centre ( ), and will carry out internationally recognised research into the investigation of novel optical phase shifters and modulators. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team of researchers working in the area of silicon photonics, utilising the state-of-the-art Cleanroom Facilities ( ) at the University of Southampton, UK. The post holder will work closely with project partners, both academic and industrial. The vision of EPICAL is to play a leading role in driving innovation in silicon photonics modulators by addressing challenges in heterogeneous integration of silicon photonics devices with BaTiO3 that has one of the largest Pockels coefficients, using mass manufacturable techniques and new design ideas. The applicant must have a strong background in silicon photonics. The applicant must also have a background in the design and characterisation of photonic devices, with an aptitude for critical evaluation and interpretation of experimental data.
