Discover the University of Toronto Scarborough.Your opportunity:The research laboratory technician will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and is responsible for providing research assistant support to ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the Principal Investigator’s research laboratory.Your responsibilities will include:Informing Principal Investigator of concerns or setbacksResponding to enquiries from Principal Investigator, Postdoctoral Fellows, and studentsApplying established standards when preparing routine samples for research projects and/or experimentsConstructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the processApplying established standards when preparing routine samples for lab testingPreparing draft statistical reports and summaries for the Principal InvestigatorProviding orientation to others on work procedures and practicesApplying established standards when cleaning lab, rooms and equipmentEssential Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum two years experience working in a Chemistry Research Laboratory in a Post-Secondary Environment or similar setting.Strong demonstrated experience in chemistryExperience preparing routine samples for research projects and/or experimentsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational and time management skillsDemonstrated experience troubleshooting laboratory equipment and resolving issuesExperience preparing statistical reports and summariesExperience updating and maintaining database recordsDemonstrated experience preparing laboratory experimentsExperience providing day-to-day direction to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in a laboratory environmentApplicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environmentAssets (Nonessential):Strengths in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry an assetDemonstrated hands-on experience with nuclear magnetic resonance and interpreting spectraTo be successful in this role you will be:CommunicatorDiligentMeticulousMulti-taskerOrganizedTeam playerA copy of the full job description is available upon request from the UTSC HR Office.
