Job Purpose – Stroke Research NetworkWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Nurse to join our stroke trials team and contribute to the broad spectrum of research studies led by Professor Keith Muir, Professor of Professor of Clinical Imaging & Consultant Neurologist University of Glasgow, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.As Stroke Research Nurse you will be required to co-ordinate and conduct studies within the stroke portfolio of studies. Additionally, you will be responsible for the promotion of research projects to the wider stroke community with the aim of improving participant recruitment to ongoing and future studies.You must be a Registered Nurse with relevant experience that demonstrates the appropriate skills for the role. You will have a proven track record in the planning, coordination and conduct of clinical trials along with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work to high standards across a variety of tasks with vigilant regard to scientific and regulatory requirements.Experience of working with patients who have cerebrovascular disease and / or in acute and emergency care settings is desirable; training will be provided.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Work with members of the senior management team to plan and implement research projects in line with study protocol, funder requirements and to agreed project milestones.2. Raise awareness of proposed and current stroke projects within local and also wider stroke networks to drive current research initiatives with the aim of improving participant recruitment numbers.3. Work with the stroke multidisciplinary team towards identification and evaluation of potentially suitable participants for the Stroke Research Network (SRN) project portfolio.4. When required, carry out clinical aspects of study protocol or liaise effectively with other members of the research study team to organise study visits.5. Ensure the highest standard of care is delivered to research participants in partnership with all members of the multi-disciplinary and research teams.6. Maximise recruitment to studies by ensuring that study site has appropriate resources to deliver the requirements of each study protocol.7. Act as the main contact for enquiries from participating subjects, prospective subjects, clinical staff and sponsors involved in studies. This includes responsibility for maintaining and responding to study email accounts and phone communications where necessary.8. Where indicated in the protocol, obtain written informed consent on behalf of the Investigator.9. Provide ongoing advice and information to participants, legal guardians and relevant others with regard to their participation in clinical research in order to obtain or update informed consent.10. Where desired or necessary, facilitate a subject’s withdrawal from a study in accordance with the ethical conditions and/or protocol requirements for the study.11. Ensure biological samples obtained from research study are stored in a secure and organised fashion in accordance with study protocol.12. Arrange proper archiving of research data in accordance with the statutory requirements for medical record keeping and the specific requirements of the research study.13. Contribute to the collation of data and the writing of papers in peer reviewed journals and support the presentation of data or promotion of clinical studies at national and international meetings.14. Practice at all times within the NMC code of Professional Conduct (2002) to ensure that the nursing needs of each research subject are met.Please note that as part of your application you must address and demonstrate how you meet each of the essential/desirable criteria point by point. If you do not address each criteria in the format explained you will not be shortlisted for interview.Knowledge/QualificationsEssentialA1 First level Registered General Nurse and/or equivalent clinical qualification.A2 Scottish Credit Qualification Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent.A3 Knowledge of ICH GCP Guidelines. Medicines for Human Use Legislation (2004) & Research Governance Framework.A4 Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.DesirableB1 Specialist knowledge of research project management in the context of academic research.B2 Evidence of management, education and training.SkillsEssentialC1 A practical understanding of clinical research methodology, including applicable regulatory requirements, and a proven ability to apply these to the coordination of research studies.C2 Operational experience working within an NHS or University environment working with clinicians and other health care professionals at all levels of the organisation.C3 Demonstrable excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work using own initiative.C4 Evidence of highly developed clinical and technical skills.C5 Time management skills and ability to prioritise own workload across sites.C6 Safe handling, preparation, storage and shipping of biological samples.C7 Intravenous cannulation/venepuncture.C8 Willingness and flexibility to travel and work at other sites as necessary.C9 Competent in using a broad range of computerised systems, databases and data sources to support project management, improved communications, information and data dissemination.C10 Planning and organising complex activities which require formulation, adjustment and coordination with other professionals within the organisation.DesirableD1 Possess a good understanding of stroke and related conditions and treatment regimens with an ability to use this knowledge to screen for eligibility to studies under the stroke portfolio.D2 Experience in liaising with clinical teams relevant to patient care including emergency medicine and radiologyExperienceEssentialE1 Post registration experience working in a research environment.DesirableF1 Development and delivery of training to nurses and other healthcare professionals.Terms and ConditionsSalary will be Grade 7, £40,247 – £45,163 per annum.This post is full time, and open ended with funding up until 31/03/2026.The University of Glasgow has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
