LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive universityDepartment of Methodology2 x Research Officer in Computational Social ScienceSalary from £42,679 to £51,000 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £54,730 pa inclusive of London allowanceThis is a fixed term appointment for 2 years with potential to extend an additional yearThis full-time position is part of Dr Milena Tsvetkova’s ERC-funded project “HUMANET: Human-Machine Social Systems” in the Department of Methodology. The project will employ virtual-lab and field experiments, agent-based models, and web data mining and analysis to investigate how humans interact with intelligent machines such as algorithms and bots, how human-machine interactions differ from human-human and machine-machine interactions, and how these interactions affect collective outcomes such as cooperation and social contagion in networks and online communities.The post involves designing and conducting research in close collaboration with other project team members, identifying and reviewing relevant literature, designing and developing research tools and applications, collecting and analysing data, and writing up, publishing, and presenting research findings.The successful candidate will:
- Have successfully completed or be close to completing a PhD in computer science, information science, data science, social psychology, sociology, psychology, computational social science or a related field by the post start date
- Have research experience with mining and analysing web data, developing interactive web applications such as games and bots, designing and conducting online experiments, and/or working with agent-based models and simulations
- Have a research interest in human-computer interaction, AI, and/or bots
- Have a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration
