Job description

Applications are invited for a fixed-term Post-doctoral Research Officer specialising in the application of machine learning. This position is part of an industrially funded research project and will be based in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Bangor University. The main objective of this role is to develop a machine learning pipeline capable of identifying substances present in various materials from data obtained using Surface-enhanced Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy (SESRS). The output of Raman spectroscopy, a Raman spectrum, contains multiple components corresponding to different vibrational modes of the sample material or molecule. The project aims to explore the underlying structure of these spectra to develop a model that accurately identifies different substances.Candidates should have a PhD (or be near completion) in machine learning or a relevant discipline and have proven computer programming abilities, evidenced by available code. The successful candidate will have expertise in Python programming for machine and deep learning, e.g., sklearn, PyTorch, TensorFlow. The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible and the post is fixed-term for a duration of 9 months. The role is based on campus at Bangor in the Dean Street building. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there is the option to spend some time working remotely within the UK to support work-life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.Applications will only be accepted via our online recruitment website: http://jobs.bangor.ac.uk.
