Job description

Research ScientistJob PurposeTo make a leading contribution to develop social interaction and communication technologies in the Centre for Social, Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, including technologies to generate 3D dynamic human social signals, such as facial expressions, body movements, and voices, multimodal signals and dyadic interactions, plus 3D scenes and other socially related multimodal signals, the use and development of AI-related technologies to support these developments. The successful candidate will be required to make a leading contribution to the formulation and submission of international-standard research publications and funding proposals and make a significant contribution to the management and direction of the ambitious research programs within cSCAN as opportunities allow.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Play a leading role in the management and development (planning, design and conduct) of research projects, working independently and/or in collaboration, including establishing and maintaining external collaborations both nationally and internationally, to bring projects to a successful completion in accordance with project deliverables and project/School/College/University research strategy.2. Establish and maintain an extensive research profile and reputation and that of the University of Glasgow/School/Centre, including playing a leading role in the presentation of research findings at high profile national and international conferences, seminars, and meetings, and sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research profile and impact of the Centre/School/College/University in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.3. Lead the development, both independently and in collaboration with others (including stakeholders) of the identification of potential funding sources and lead in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research of international quality.4. Take a leading role in developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across projects and in the broader School/College/University and wider community (e.g. academic and other collaborators/partners).5. Take responsibility for the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of research teams to ensure their effective development.6. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including Budgets/Expenditure.7. Supervise Masters students and act as co-supervisor to PhD students as assigned by the Head of Centre and/or senior group leader.8. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline in order to provide advice and guidance to students and less experienced colleagues.9. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.10. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School/Head of Centre.11.
