As such it is an area of future growth, investment and expansion within Croda.We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist to join the Biotechnology R&T group, specifically the Synthetic Biology team, who will help deliver these sustainability targets. Depending on your experience, you will develop engineered microbes for new bioprocesses at lab and pilot scale. The successful candidate will also gain invaluable experience working closely with our production teams to develop these processes to industrial scale. As well as this, you will work closely with other areas of the business such as IP, regulatory, application, sales, and marketing to gain the vital experience of making your research efforts a commercial success.Benefits Package:The successful candidate will receive a competitive benefits package including:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in synthetic biology, molecular biology, metabolic engineering.
  • Strong technical background in strain engineering of fungal strains (cultivation and genetic manipulation)
  • Strong molecular biology skills, including cloning, DNA & RNA manipulation, microorganism transformation.
  • You will have the ability to work within an R&T team and wider commercial teams.
  • You will need to be a self-motivated individual with the ability to manage and plan your own workload.
  • You will have strong communication and networking skills.
  • You will have the ability to find innovative solutions to complex problems and adapt to changing project requirements.

Desirables:

  • Previous experience in industry would be beneficial.
  • Background in modern gene-editing technologies such as CRISPR, and DNA assembly such as Golden-Gate and Gibson.
  • Experience in high-throughput screening (DNA combinatorial assembly, enzyme assays, or analytics)
  • Microbiologist, with experience working with bioreactors.
  • Experience in downstream bioprocess development.
  • Previous work experience within the biotechnology or bioindustry sector.
  • Proven experience of taking an idea to commercial success.
