About us The mission of the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health.About the role This vacancy is for a project manager and technician role responsible for implementing a novel database to store key information about biobanked samples. The role also involves obtaining consent, collection, processing and storage of samples for the UCL-Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health Blood Disorders Biobank.There is also the potential to be involved in transfer of patient cell populations to immunodeficient mice to expand patient-derived cells of interest.The salary offered in this post is £34,605 – £43,205 per annum and is funded for 3 years in the first instance.About you The ideal candidate will either be pre-PhD with a master’s degree or post PhD in haematological malignancy or related biological field and have worked in either a research or diagnostic laboratory environment. They will be skilled in tissue culture and cell cryopreservation, have excellent organizational and project management skills with knowledge of database management. They will require great team-working skills, being able to bridge effectively between the research team and NHS diagnostic laboratory environments and be interested in clinical processes including gaining consent, data recording and patient contact
