Reserves Manager (North)

The Role:

We have a rare opportunity to recruit a new Reserves Manager to lead on the conservation
management of twelve wildlife reserves across the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, including
the Trust’s largest reserve – Ben Mor Coigach, which sits within the Trust led Coigach and
Assynt Living Landscape Initiative.

The successful candidate will co-ordinate all practical habitat conservation work, including
designing and delivering externally funded projects to be implemented by volunteers and
contractors. This will involve line managing five roles across the North as well as working
closely with statutory bodies, partner organisations, landowners, Scottish Wildlife Trust
members, and the public.

As a key role the post holder will work with teams across the Trust to champion landscape scale
conservation for nature and people; with a view to demonstrating exemplary habitat management
across reserves. Reserves across this region host a mosaic of habitats, including uplands,
coastal features and lowland heaths. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience
of working with crofting communities and awareness of crofting legislation, as well as upland
deer management, native woodland creation and peatland restoration.

The post allows for hybrid working, with the successful candidate working from a base in
Inverness and willing to travel across the North Region regularly. Occasional travel to other
reserve regions across Scotland, as well as the Trusts office in Edinburgh, will also be
required.

You must be qualified to degree level or equivalent in countryside management, nature
conservation, ecology or similar discipline, and be able to demonstrate your achievements and
extensive experience in practical conservation management and species monitoring across a range
of habitats.

The successful applicant will have excellent knowledge of conservation and
land management, have strong project management skills whilst being able to operate as a lone
worker as well as part of a team. A current UK driving licence is essential, as is a
willingness to undertake travel, overnight stays and occasional weekend working.
