DescriptionThis position provides supervision, support, coaching, and guidance to Residential Support Workers to ensure they are able to complete all their job duties effectively; also provides a safe and secure environment for residents/ and visitors and practical support to reintegrate them into the community.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Resident / Program Support:
- Works alongside all Resident Support Workers, volunteers, and practicum students to ensure job duties are completed as needed.
- Conducts resident intakes, goal setting and follow ups.
- Monitors the activities of residents and maintains availability of personal, practical, and moral support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medication.
- Maintains strong communication both written and verbal for the benefit of the resident and program.
- Ensures resident assessment, admission, and orientation are being completed correctly, with dignity and respect for each person participating in the process.
- Works collaboratively with agencies {e.g. PACT, SOS, DOAP)
- Resolves all issues that arise within the building with residents or staff.
- Performs Resident Support Worker duties and other related tasks when needed/
- Provides training to new Resident Support Workers.
- Provides resident advocacy as needed.
- Audits resident files.
- Provides input into Resident Support Worker and Program Aid annual performance evaluations.
- Reviews policies, procedures, and program guidelines; provide suggestions for changes as needed.
- Reviews information and R=resident forms to ensure correct information and relevance
- Participates in annual program operation planning.
- Reviews training manuals to ensure information is current.
- Supervises the coordination and distribution of weekly food hampers.
- Conducts monthly tool and medication cabinet audits.
- May supervise day to day work of Resident Support Workers and/or Program Aids to ensure quality service delivery.
- May complete resident room inspections and follow up as needed or directed.
- May support other residential positions in job related duties.
Administrative:
- Develops shift schedules for the Resident Support Workers.
- Ensures scheduled vacation, medical and/or sick days are covered.
- Records accurate notes of day-to-day encounters.
- Maintains log books and completes daily reports.
- Answers program telephones and records/remits messages.
- Completes appropriate paperwork such as incident reports, vacation request,
communication book etc., as required.
- Handles finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets, and receipting of same
- Audits resident files as per procedures and accreditation standards.
- Monitors the disposal of stored properties.
- Monitors occupancy fee payments
- Attends monthly staff meetings and Resident Support Team Leader meetings.
- Attends case conferences with Resident and management.
- May attend external agencies sector meetings.
- May conduct, or assist with, supervision meetings, coaching and provide input into performance evaluations of reporting Support Service Worker, Program Aids and practicum students
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of two (2) years of Community College in a related field (i.e.. social work)
- Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Current Standard First Aid certification with Level A or C CPR from an Alberta approved training provider
- Incumbents with a Social Work diploma or degree must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers
- One year but less than three years prior related experience in frontline work in a social services setting, life skills and experience in a related field.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Understanding of, and ability to, work with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities that are vulnerable and find themselves homeless.
- Effective customer service skills.
- Computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and familiarity with databases.
- Responsive to safely resolve crisis situations and respond nonjudgmentally to problematic behaviours.
- Attentive listening and observation of body language and able to monitor and read the environment.
- Demonstrated trauma informed care, non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation skills; ability to diffuse difficult situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey information to residents and community partners.
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- Able to pack and lift resident’s belongings and engage in recreational activities.
