JOB SUMMARY & REQUIREMENTS *RESOURCE NURSE HEMODIALYSISThe Resource Nurse in Hemodialysis Unit is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for overseeing and ensuring quality patient care. The Resource Nurse will collaborate and work with the satellite units at both 66 Wellington St and Stevenson Memorial Hospital. The Resource Nurse is responsible for responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient’s health status and consulting appropriately when necessary. The Resource Nurse will report directly to the Hemodialysis Manager on patient care issues, potential complaints, staffing concerns, supply and equipment issues and any concerns with patient flow or patient schedules. Excellence employment and attendance record required.EDUCATION:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing essential. BScN
- Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Certification in Nephrology Specialty preferred.
- CNeph(C) preferred.
- Member in good standing of professional associations related to Nephrology (CANNT, ANNA).
- Proven interest in attending Nephrology related education, seminars.
- Current BCLS
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years of recent hemodialysis experience.
- Sound knowledge of nursing process and responsibilities of profession.
- Functions independently within scope of practice.
- Recent acute care experience preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
- Proven ability to cover the charge role.
- Proven excellence in cannulation.
- Proven excellence in the use of the portable ultrasound machine in cannulation.
- The ability to teach adults using the principles of adult education.
- Sound problem solving, communication (both written and verbal), conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
- Computer literacy in software applications including RDIS and MediTech Expanse.
- Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others.
- Demonstrated commitment to the concept of Continuous Quality Improvement and patient care.
- Ability to learn about, from and with the other members of the patient care team to foster a strong interprofessional model of care.
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
- Possess clinical expertise and demonstrated exemplary clinical practice in Hemodialysis nursing.
- Mentors all in center hemodialysis staff to practice according to RVH Policy and Procedures including Infection Control.
- Assume other duties as deemed necessary by the Program Manager.
