SCOPE OF THE WORK

Specific activities will include, but not limited to:

1. Develop a research plan and methodology for data collection, combining qualitative and quantitative tools, including desk review, survey questionaries, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions. The data collected should rely on official data provided by political parties and other identified stakeholders.
2. Provide sound analysis on the existence of gender responsive rules and procedures for identification, nomination, and selection of candidates for decision making positions within the political party structure. Additionally, identify successful practices and case studies from political parties within the sub-region or beyond, which have effectively promoted gender equality. The analysis should provide recommendations to guide Gambia political parties to establish gender responsive statutes.
3. Conduct interviews and consultations with key stakeholders including political party leaders, IPC members, women’s wings of political parties, elected women representatives (National Assembly and Local Councils), political parties’ selection committees, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), CSOs, development partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
4. Identify the number and percentage of women at all levels of political parties as per their internal structure, observing trends in increase or decrease during the last ten years.
5. Identify barriers and challenges faced by women within political parties that hinder their participation, representation, and leadership at national and local levels through analysis and interviews.
6. Provide training to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the media on gender policies for political parties to enhance their understanding and capacity to hold political parties accountable.
7. Facilitate the validation of the gender policy, obtaining signatures from leaders of political parties, and disseminate the policy to various stakeholders.
8. Develop a revised gender policy for political parties, detailing goals, objectives, key activities, and benchmarks to be agreed upon at the beginning of the consultancy.
