The recent amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Victim and Witness Protection Authority Act now allows victims, witnesses, or any law enforcement authority to provide testimony through contemporaneous audio-visual linkages. This development represents a significant step toward ensuring the safety and convenience of victims and witnesses while upholding the integrity of the judicial process.
The UNDP, through its projects “Ensuring Justice for Victim Survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Sri Lanka” and “Support Security for Peace Global Flagship in Sri Lanka”—is engaging with key justice sector institutions to protect and enhance the rights and entitlements of vulnerable victims and witnesses, especially women and children, by providing remote court hearing facilities.
As part of this initiative, the procurement process will focus on providing remote court hearing facilities to the Bureau for the Investigation of Abuse of Children & Women under the Sri Lanka Police, and the National Child Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
