Role & Department OverviewNote: You will need a DBS certificate for this role and this will be paid for and processed by the university. The Role Model Ambassador Programme is a project ran by the Widening Participation Team at Lancaster University working with local British South Asian communities, youth groups, and Islamic faith schools. What is a role model? A role model is someone who the young people can aspire to be like when they are older. Role models share authentically about their experiences. An important role model for a young person is someone from a similar background who understands their perspective and has gone on to achieve a place at a top university and wants to share information to inspire the younger generation. We are looking for enthusiastic students who are keen to work with young people in Years 7 to 13 by sharing their experiences of being a student, choosing a university, and study skills. As a Role Model Ambassador, you will have the opportunity to develop sessions on your own experiences to inspire and support students from a similar background. Part of the role will also involve leading small groups of young people during on-campus events. There will also be some travel to schools to deliver sessions and some evening and weekend work with youth groups. There will also be the opportunity to take part in the community radio show ‘Education Matters’ and to talk about your time at university and your educational journey.Due to the nature of the Programme and the opportunity to act as a Role Model to these young people we would particularly welcome applications from students with South Asian heritage and/or students who have attended secondary or sixth form Islamic Faith Schools or a madrassa.Preferred start date: 18th of November 2024Expected end date: 31st of July 2025Weekly hours: 2 hours per weekLocation: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campusJob DescriptionMain Responsibilities:
