School Nurse – Part Time in Brookline, Massachusetts

About the Park School

The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in

The School Nurse reports to the Director of Health Services. This is a part-time, 10-month position for the

2024-2025 academic year (11:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday). The ideal candidate will

demonstrate an enthusiasm for educating students, faculty and staff, and parents regarding matters of health,

wellness, injury/illness prevention, and medical care.

Responsibilities

● Demonstrate clinical competency in school nursing practice and oversee the health care for students,

providing first aid care and medically prescribed support and/or services.

● Assess students’ health and refer students to urgent care or emergency room, as necessary.

● Be available to communicate by phone and email regarding student health concerns, as necessary.

● Maintain confidential records and other relevant health data.

● Identify opportunities for coordination with faculty on student health curriculum.

● Actively participate on the Faculty & Staff Health & Safety Committee.

● Participate in professional development opportunities to supplement knowledge that will enhance

care delivered to students.

Qualifications

● Active nursing license in MA must be current and maintained.

● A minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university is required.

● Awareness and appreciation of a culturally diverse community including racial, ethnic,

socioeconomic, language and gender identity diversity.

● Ability to maintain electronic medical records.

● Current certification in CPR Adult/Child, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

● Certification from the National Board of Certification of School Nurses is valued.

● Prior experience working in a school environment is preferred.

● Prior experience in triage nursing is valued.

● Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults

● ​​High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

● Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school

Physical Requirements:

● Sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minutes periods of time.

● The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt,

etc.).

● The ability to position oneself (e.g., stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students.

● The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.

● The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs

● The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment

● The ability to deploy situational awareness to preserve the safety of students and community

members.

● Must have a valid driver’s license to transport students across campus in emergency situations
