The Centre’s mission is to advance the understanding of brain health and mental well-being through cutting-edge imaging technologies, with a commitment to conducting innovative research, providing exceptional patient care, and fostering collaboration within the scientific and medical communities.BHIC is seeking an outstanding early career, full-time, permanent, Scientist with expertise at the intersection of in vitro and in vivo neuroimaging, with extensive experience in radiopharmaceutical development and translation, including radiochemistry, autoradiography, immunoassays, preclinical neuroimaging, neurodegenerative disease biology, and pharmacology. The successful applicant will establish and maintain a viable program of independent research focused on understanding the link between the neurobiology of chronic traumatic encephalopathy and the associated psychiatric symptoms (other mental health consequences) that present in this patient population, from bench to bedside, and is expected to concurrently co-lead human neuroimaging studies. The research program must be capable of producing international-level scientific output, based on the key accountabilities listed below, and in alignment with the strategic objectives of the Centre, the CFMHRI, and the hospital. They will work in a collaborative inter-disciplinary environment that spans fundamental wet lab neuroscience and clinical research, contribute to the development of evidence-based practices to enhance mental health outcomes for patients, and support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirement.Accountabilities:

• Develop and carry out a sustained and consistent program of research projects as a Project Lead / Principal Investigator, independently overseeing and leading all aspects of research projects for the complete duration/lifecycle.
• Secure and manage extramural research funding from national peer-reviewed agencies and/or industry sponsored partnerships and contracts sufficient to carry out and maintain a consistent and strong program of research projects over time.
• Maintain consistent levels of research output, including but not limited to: publications as first author in scientific peer-reviewed journals and presentations and dissemination of results at academic meetings and conferences. Where appropriate, other outputs, such as those related to commercialization (e.g. patent submissions; licensing of intellectual property) and data analysis (e.g. database or analytics software development; code sharing) are also desirable.
• Establish internal and external research collaborations, and over time develop a research profile at local, national, and international levels.
• Seek out and engage in academic community service and participate effectively in CAMH Research, hospital, and university research-related administrative, and/or other science community activities, such as advisory groups.
• Supervise, train and mentor personnel (including technical and research staff) in a wet laboratory and act as the primary supervisor for research trainees at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral level.

The successful applicant is required to have a Ph.D. in Neuroimaging, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or a related field, and a minimum of 3 years of post-graduate research experience (5 years of independent research experience is preferred). Experience must encompass advanced wet lab in vitro neuroimaging research involving human and animal brain tissues as well as in vivo imaging in rodents and higher species. The applicant must have a strong background in neuropathology and the biology of neurodegenerative diseases, demonstrated expertise in pharmacology, including drug mechanism studies, and familiarity with imaging modalities such as MRI and PET, and related analysis tools. Experience will also encompass mapping the large-scale organization of brain networks and the use of advanced techniques computational modelling and multivariate and cross-sectional statistical analysis. Preclinical modelling at any of those levels is considered an asset. The successful applicant will also demonstrate a history of progressive scientific achievements and contributions to our understanding of neurobiology and the interactions of mental illness and ageing, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and competitive research funding. CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and the successful applicant will be required to obtain an academic appointment within a UofT department at the Assistant Professor level.The successful candidate will also possess sound judgment, excellent organizational, communication (verbal/written) and strong analytical skills. The demonstrated ability to cultivate internal and external relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues, decision makers and the scientific community is required, as is the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team made up of individuals of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds. Bilingualism (English/French) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
