CAMH combines clinical care, research, education, policy development and health promotion to transform the lives of people affected by mental illness and addictions.Position Description:The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking an outstanding early career full-time, permanent scientist with expertise in either preclinical or translational neuroscience, or both, with a focus on women’s mental health. The successful candidate will play a pivotal leadership role in building a research program in neuroscience to study the neurobiological bases of psychiatric/neurological disorders and treatments. The incumbent will work in a collaborative inter-disciplinary environment that spans fundamental and clinical research and support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.As a Scientist, the successful candidate will develop and carry out a sustained and consistent program of research, overseeing and leading all aspects of research projects. They will secure and manage extramural funding sources for those research activities, maintain consistent research outputs (including an active publication record as first/senior author). They will disseminate research results through presentations at academic meetings and conferences and communicate ideas to key decision makers. Participation in leadership advisory groups at CAMH and externally is expected. The successful candidate will be required to establish local, national, and international collaborations and provide practical supervision of undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral trainees, and technical staff.CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and the successful applicant will need to obtain academic affiliation with a university department at the Assistant Professor level.The successful candidate will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 250 College Street, Toronto, Ontario.The successful applicant is required to have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field and at least 3 years of post-doctoral experience in neuroscience research and techniques; for example, understanding biomarkers of psychiatric disorders (stem cells, neuropathology, cell biology, neuroimmunology, gene expression, genetic architecture) using various techniques such as microscopy, electrophysiology, imaging, computational approaches, bioinformatics, optogenetics, chemogenetics and/or pharmacogenetics as evidenced by conference proceedings and peer-reviewed publications.The successful candidate’s experience and expertise will encompass women’s mental health as well as technical and conceptual aspects of neural activity and the ability to link behavioural and mechanistic function with neural network activity. Preclinical modelling at any of those levels is considered an asset. The successful candidate will also possess sound judgment, excellent organizational, communication (verbal/written) and strong analytical skills. The demonstrated ability to cultivate internal and external relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues, decision makers and the scientific community is required. You must be able to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team. The capacity to work with individuals of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required.
