About Us

Bats are remarkable and essential to our environment. The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) is the
foremost non-governmental organisation dedicated to bat conservation and habitat protection.
Our mission is to secure bats’ future in a changing world.

BCT actively works on a range of initiatives to create a better world for bats. We’re
passionate about preserving these unique creatures and are committed to welcoming like-minded
individuals who share our dedication.

We are now looking for several Seasonal Bat Advisors to join our National Bat Helpline Team on
a full-time basis, working 37.5 hours per week for a five month fixed term contract. There is
some flexibility about when the posts will end. Some will end in September and some in October;
this will depend on the applicants for the posts. Please indicate which months you would be
available on the application form.

The Benefits

  • Salary of £27,079.91 per annum
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Eye Care Vouchers
  • Flex Time Policy
  • Cycle Scheme

This is a brilliant opportunity for a passionate communicator with a love for wildlife and
experience in a professional office environment to join our dedicated conservation
organisation.

By offering expert advice, supporting volunteers and raising awareness, you’ll play a key role
in ensuring bats continue to thrive in our landscapes.

What’s more, you’ll gain experience in conservation, developing a diverse skillset in
environmental advocacy, communication and species protection and setting you up for a great
career!

If you’re ready to make a real difference in bat conservation and want to be part of a
passionate, expert team, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Seasonal Bat Advisor, you will provide advice and support through our National Bat
Helpline, helping to promote bat conservation and welfare.

Responding to public and professional enquiries via phone, email and letter, you will offer
guidance on bat-related issues, roost management and the protection of bat habitats, ensuring
accurate and helpful information is provided.

Acting as an ambassador for bats and their conservation, you will also encourage public
engagement, promote BCT membership and secure donations to support the Helpline’s work.

Your role will also involve administering the free bat advice service on behalf of Natural
England and assisting householders and places of worship in managing bat roosts.

Additionally, you will:

  • Maintain volunteer contact details, updating databases and co-ordinating roost visits
  • Offer initial bat care advice, referring cases to trained volunteers or vets as needed
  • Support Helpline and Out of Hours volunteers, providing guidance and assistance
  • Keep detailed records of all enquiries and roost reports
  • Promote fundraising efforts to support the long-term sustainability of the National Bat
    Helpline

About You

  • Experience of working effectively in an office or very busy working environment with a large,
    varied workload
  • An awareness of wildlife conservation issues
  • Proficiency in using standard Microsoft software
  • Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills

There is a requirement to be on call to provide support to Out of Hours volunteers on some
weekday evenings, weekends and bank holidays, according to the team rota. There may also be
occasional evening and weekend work for which time off in lieu is given, although not
necessarily on a one for one basis.

Deadline for Applications: 9am Monday 10th March 2025
Interviews (held via Zoom, or in person if you prefer): Thursday 27th &
Friday 28th March 2025
