Ts-i-ts-uwatul Lelum is an Assisted Living facility where we provide recreation, meals, and a variety of services and supports to the Indigenous Elders, seniors, and people with disabilities residing in the facility.Position SummaryUnder the Supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor, the Second Cook is responsible for the basic cooking, baking, and preparation techniques of the kitchen operations of the Ts’i’ts’uwatul’ Lelum Assisted Living facility. The successful candidate will work with the Kitchen Supervisor to provide high quality, low fat, low sugar, low salt meals and baked goods that are palatable and nutritious. The Second Cook will assist with food purchasing, food production, menu planning, and will be responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary working environment. The Second Cook will provide coverage for the Kitchen Supervisor as required. It is expected this role will represent MHS and embrace the vision to improve living conditions for Elders, seniors, and people living with disabilities.This is a casual, on-call position and shift will typically be from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm. This position is compensated at $27.56 per hour.Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of Canada Food Guide for Healthy Eating
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety standards
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong planning and time management skills
  • Ability to take direction and follow procedures

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma
  • Post Secondary Culinary Certificate is preferred, Cook Red Seal Certification or equivalent is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years kitchen experience in a high volume facility or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience working in and with the Indigenous Community would be an asset
  • Courses required and paid for by M’akola:
  • Food Safe Level ll
  • Occupational First Aid Level l Certificate (updated every 3 years)
  • WHMIS and MSDS Certificate
  • Criminal Record Check
