Job Title: Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Location: Secondary School with Separate SEN Provision
Position: Part-Time, Permanent (0.8 FTE)About the School:
We are a dynamic and inclusive secondary school offering a separate SEN provision designed to support students with a range of special educational needs. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our team on a part-time, permanent basis (0.8 FTE) to help us deliver exceptional support to students with a variety of needs.Role Overview:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support students with special educational needs both within the main school setting and in the dedicated SEN provision. You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, providing tailored assistance to ensure students access the curriculum and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. You will work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEN, ensuring they can fully participate in class activities and lessons.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and work with students to support their learning needs.
  • Help adapt teaching materials and lesson plans to meet the specific needs of students with varying levels of SEN.
  • Foster an inclusive environment by supporting students both academically and emotionally, encouraging their confidence and independence.
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing regular feedback to the SENCO, class teachers, and parents.
  • Support students in the separate SEN provision, ensuring their well-being and engagement with the curriculum.
  • Contribute to the positive behavior management of students, using appropriate strategies to promote engagement and focus.
  • Adhere to the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies to ensure a safe environment for all students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary school students with special educational needs, ideally in a mainstream or specialist school setting.
  • Understanding of SEN and effective strategies to support students with a range of needs, such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Speech and Language Difficulties.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to helping students reach their potential in a supportive learning environment.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors and maintain a calm, structured classroom atmosphere.
  • A desire to develop professionally and engage in ongoing training opportunities related to SEN and teaching.

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting students in secondary school settings with additional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certification or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of behavioral management techniques and differentiated learning strategies for SEN students.
  • An understanding of the secondary school curriculum and assessment systems.
